Google Photos now lets you mute videos with a single tap: Here’s how

Google often rolls out nifty changes to its services but for some these are vital ones and really makes lives a bit easier. Something similar has happened in the case of Google’s widely used app - Photos. After receiving a major UI and features update last week (and a new logo), the app now has added a small feature that lets you mute videos easily while watching them.

Until now, you and I, while watching a video in Google Photos used to fiddle with the smartphone’s volume buttons on the side to change the loudness level. Some even did this by swiping down the notification tray. However, now if you want to mute the audio of the video in Google Photos, you can tap on a small mute icon placed at the bottom right corner, just besides the playback bar, reports Android Police. Tapping it brings back the volume as it was before. That’s it.

This is definitely not a new feature as several third-party media apps come with it. But it’s always good to see native apps bringing this onboard. It has been reported that the mute button is not live for everyone yet and seems to be a server side switch instead of being exclusive to the new UI version of the app.

Google Photos a few ago received a massive UI upgrade along with new features. The app also got a new logo. Google Photos product director, David Lieb says the redesigned app is “focused on your memories, to help you find and relive your most treasured moments.” As a part of a redesigned Google Photos app users will see more prominence given to the photos and videos and three tabs at the bottom instead of four - Photos, Search and Library.
