In an effort to protect smartphones, Symantec and Bharti Airtel, in collaboration with Lotaris, a Swiss-based Mobile Internet Security service provider, have announced the launch of Norton Smartphone Security for Airtel's mobile customers in India.

Available for Airtel mobile customers on their WAP Market place, Airtel Live, Norton Smartphone Security is hoping to be the one-stop anti-virus, anti-spam and firewall solution.

Apart from being able to protects users from viruses by detecting mobile threats and preventing users from accessing infected files; it will also have an antispam for SMS feature that can automatically deletes spam messages, or filter them to a separate spam folder. A firewall will control both inbound and outbound network traffic on the mobile device. Designed to provide mobile users the same level of security that has become standard for laptops and other computing devices, Norton Smartphone Security provides service to Windows Mobile and Symbian smartphone users. Norton's new security system provides over-the-air, in flexible subscription-centric service models.
