Mobile World Congress 2017 highlights: Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab S3, Galaxy Book

Samsung is expected to launch the new Galaxy Tab S3 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday. It might just showcase a few features of the new to be launched flagship smartphone -- the S8.

Korean electronics giant Samsung might announce a new tablet and showcase its next flagship smartphone, the S8, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday.

An invite for the company's big event detailed what appears to be a tablet — the Galaxy Tab S3, according to FCC filings and a deluge of rumors, has been sent out. The slate, a followup to 2015's Tab S2, is believed to sport a 9.6-inch 2048 x 1536 screen powered by a Snapdragon 820.

12: 45 PM: Smsung now indicates towards the launch date for S8.The S8 will be launched on March 29 in an event called Samsung unpacked. No announcements about the price and availability of the Tab S3 or the Book.

12:41 PM: Samsung moves to Oculus now for virtual reality. Samsung launches new remote/touchpad/controller to help users maximise VR experiences. The remote will be available out of the box on launch in partnership with Oculus.

12:40 PM: Both the devices have Samsung Flow. The Flow allows users to share files or take calls just like Apple's icloud keychain.

12:37 PM: S-Pen also comes with Adobe partnership so no hassles for Photoshop and other Creative Suite programmes. The Book also comes with a Pogo Keyboard cover out of the box.

12:35 PM: The keyboard connection on the Book has been revamped, making it easier to shift from slate to connected and back again. With longer battery life (reportedly 10 hours) and expandable storage, the unit ships with keyboard and S-Pen in the box, as part of the standard package. For users wanting cellular connectivity, a single click on Samsung Flow enables hot spot capability for those with a Samsung phone.

12:29 AM: The Galaxy Book comes with 7th-generation Intel i5 processor. In terms of storage, the Book comes with 256GB of internal storage. "It can do anything that a high power PC does," Samsung claims. The Book also comes with two 2 USB Type-C ports. Also capable of high speed internet. Battery also has fast charging.

12:27 AM: The 12.0-inch, 2,160 x 1,440, AMOLED screen is familiar but this models now features 8 GB of RAM, double that of the Tab Pro S, and a redesigned, backlit keyboard, with a larger mousepad and more space to rest one's palms when typing. The Book weighs just 754 grammes.

12:25 AM: As guessed, the Samsung galaxy Book look like a much improved version of the Galaxy Tab Pro S, with enough enhancements to warrant a new naming structure.

12:20 AM: Samsung moves to the convertible or two-in-one Galaxy Book. Samsung claims that the Book is for users who wants an uncompromising experience. The Book will run Windows operating system (Windows 10).

12:19 AM: The Tab S3 S Pen also comes with multiple features. The keyboard and the Pen just pairs itself automatically with the tablet. "Feels just like writing on paper," Samsung claims.

12:16 AM: The tablet has Samsung's new game launcher that blocks notifications while the user is gaming. It also has Vulcan API that means gaming will be superb on the device. AKG earbuds will come with upcoming smartphones which means the S*8 will ship with AKG earphones.

12:15 AM: The Tab S3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset abd supports cellular network (LTE) capable for connectivity on the move. Accessory options include a linked keyboard and a new, improved 0.7mm, rubber tipped, S-Pen, which needs no battery unlike the Apple Pencil. The display also comes with a bluelight filter.

12:12 AM: Just like its predecessor, features a QXGA, 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display but this model sports a glass back with its metal frame. The unit is HDR ready, through its mobile Digital Natural Image engine (mDNIe) and it incorporates quad speakers, tuned by AKG. The quad speakers' output auto-rotates to accommodate landscape or portrait viewing and battery life and frame rate per second (FPS) are both substantially improved from that of the S2.

12:07 AM: Samsung finally moves to the tablet zone. Tab S3 is just around the corner. Android based, 9.7-inch, Galaxy Tab S3 is launched as we had guessed. Samsung sees the tablet as a versatile device to let users do more. Samsung is going to launch two tablets.

11:55 PM: Samsung has setup an eight point battery check to ensure that Note 7 fiasco is not repeated.

Samsung might now unveil the new S8 with its proprietary Bixby assistant at MWC 2017 but might just showcase some of its features. According to leaks and speculations, the S8 is expected to come with a dedicated button for the digital assistant, a better water and dust resistance capability among other incremental hardware and software updates. Rumours are also abuzz that the latest Exynos processor also might be used in the S8.
