Need space to save photos? We compared Dropbox, Google One, Apple One and their prices

It is 2020 so you can expect the worst things that can happen. We all are already going through a pandemic; industries are fighting for survival and many other sectors are still coping up with their losses. Adding to all these woes is Google’s latest announcement of discontinuing free unlimited photo storage feature in Google Photos. It is one of the biggest decisions by the firm till date, something that will affect you, me and millions of others. It has been announced that from July 1, 2021, photos saved in Google Photos will take up your Google Drive space. And when that ends, you will definitely need to pay to get more space on Google’s servers. 

This had to happen someday as nothing stays free forever. But now that a decision has been made by the search giant, the best way to move forward is by looking at the online storage options that are available to us and get the most space in the least possible money. 

So, we compared the storage tiers of some popular platforms like Google One, Microsoft OneDrive, Apple iCloud and Dropbox, giving you a fair idea on how much you should spend to get the most space.

Google One:

-100GB for ₹130/month or ₹1,300 annually. Can be shared with family members.

-200GB for ₹210/month or ₹2,100 annually. Can be shared with family members.

-2TB for ₹650/month or ₹6,500 annually. Can be shared with family members.

Microsoft OneDrive:

-5GB free when you open a OneDrive account.

-100GB for ₹140/month.

-1TB for ₹420/month or ₹4,199 annually. Includes Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint subscription as well.

-6TB for ₹520/month or ₹5,299 annually. Includes same office subscription.

Apple iCloud:

-5GB free storage when you sign up for iCloud.

-50GB for ₹75/month.

-200GB for ₹219/month. Includes family sharing.

-2TB for ₹749/month. Includes family sharing.

Apple One:

-50GB iCloud with Arcade, TV+ and Apple Music subscription for ₹195/month.

-200GB iCloud with Arcade, TV+ and Apple Music subscription for ₹365/month.

It is worth adding that if the iCloud storage included in Apple One is more than your current plan, your current iCloud storage plan will be cancelled, and you will receive a pro-rated refund. However, if the iCloud storage included in Apple One is equal to your current plan, you can keep both your current iCloud storage plan and the iCloud storage in Apple One during the free trial. Once the free trial gets over, your current iCloud storage plan is cancelled, and the total iCloud storage will be the amount included in your Apple One subscription. Lastly, if the iCloud storage included in Apple One is less than your current plan, you keep both your current iCloud storage plan and the iCloud storage in Apple One.

Dropbox:

-2GB free when you create and account.

-2TB for $11.99/month or $9.99/month if billed annually.

-2TB (share with up to 6 users) for $19.99/month or $16.99/month if billed annually.

The 2TB tier also has some additional features like full text search, mobile offline folders, remote device wipe, 30-day history and more.
