Oppo’s Full-path Color Management System to debut with Find X3 in 2021

Oppo on Wednesday announced that its Full-path Color Management System will be rolled out as part of its upcoming flagship smartphone series, Find X3, in 2021. The system is said to be the first for Android that supports full DCI-P3 wide gamut and 10-bit colour depth from capture, storage, and display. The technology is said to help enhance the viewing experience by delivering more accurate colour reproduction.

According to Oppo, the Full-path Color Management System used higher specification algorithm and hardware to record colours when capturing. The algorithms were then used to sort distortion correction, perceptual extreme super-resolution, and multi-frame noise reduction. The company said it will support image sensors that have Digital Overlap (DOL) HDR mode. The technology essentially synthesises different exposure conditions into one, to deliver a clearer image when taken against bright light.

“Compared with the depth of 8-bits, the 10-bit color depth tones down the artificial visual features brought about by gaps in colors. The 10-bit color depth further improves color gradient to enhance the quality of visual content during creation and post-editing,” the company said in a release.

“Meanwhile, with a size only around 50% of a JPEG image, the new and powerful HEIF format fully supports a wide variety of multimedia, such as static images, Exif, depth information, and dynamic videos, thus giving users more creative freedom. It is also worth mentioning that the HEIF format can be further developed to ensure compatibility with respect to ultra-high color depth,” it added.

Oppo’s announcement comes a day after the company introduced ‘Oppo X 2021’ concept smartphone with a rollable display. Unveiled at its Inno Day in China, Oppo uses a Roll Motor powertrain to allow the device to expand from a 6.7-inch canvas to a 7.4-inch phablet.

The company has also introduced a 2-in-1 Plate display technology, which allows it to show content on either side of a display. The dynamic frame on the back comes with an outer fixed frame and a sliding frame within to protect the sliding mechanism.
