Cyber crime is on the rise and it amazes you more when a known personality falls in the trap of online fraudsters. Remember the incident from last year, when the former NDTV journalist Nidhi Razdhan had been the victim of a phishing scam with the fraudulent offer of an Associate Professor from Harvard University. Well, this time, famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s friend and also the former Indian Cricketer Vinod Kambli became the victim of an online fraud, wherein he has been duped by 1.14 lakh, even in the multiple fraudulent transactions which were carried out on December 3.

Cyber fraudsters claimed to be an executive of a private bank and asked Kambli to share his know your customer (KYC) details, otherwise his bank account would get deactivated. Not just this, the cyber criminals managed to scare him and before he could react, they made him download the AnyDesk software to update the KYC, through which fraudsters could manage the Kambli's system and he fell prey to the con game.

Is there any action taken?

Later, as soon as Kambli realized that these calls were unauthentic, he immediately contacted his CA and bank officials, TOI reported. Bandra Police in Mumbai with the help of cyber police teams and the private bank where Kambli has the bank account, managed to take action and registered a case under section 420 (cheating) of IPC and provisions of Information Technology Act on December 7. Their cumulative efforts made the money reverted to Kambli's account that was debited in the fraudulent incident.

Former Cricketer was lucky enough to get his money back that he had lost in the cyber fraud but it's not necessary that you would be lucky too. Here know what you should keep in mind while handling online banking.

Points to keep in mind while having online banking

- Never ever share your sensitive KYC information such as phone number, messages or any email.

- Passwords, usernames and OTPs are meant just for your own use to ensure safety. never share them with anyone.

- Received any suspicious link? Be more suspicious then. Because the bank never sends any link to update your KYC.

- Even if you are opening a link, check the URL thoroughly to see if there are any differences in the usual official link of the bank or not.

- AVoid downloading any secondary app which promises to help you to complete your KYC. Even, there are many clone apps for banks, beware of them too.
