Sunny Leone is the latest entrant to the NFT club: Here’s what we know so far

NFTs or non-fungible tokens are big in the news nowadays. Particularly over the last year, NFTs have become very popular with tweets, memes, artworks, videos, and more, making billions of dollars by being sold as NFTs. And the latest to encash the NFT cheque is Sunny Leone. According to multiple online reports, the actor has said that her NFTs will be available on her website soon. “Crypto is the future of the world and NFTs give me an opportunity to express myself with art and be able to essentially make each NFT its own unique token which is really exciting,” Leone said.

For now, this is pretty much all the information we have as far as Leone’s plans of making NFTs available on her site. We do not know exactly what she intends to make into NFTs, yet. This is not the first time Bollywood is mentioning NFTs though. Amitabh Bachchan has an NFT plan that’s supposed to roll out by November, but it looks like Leone might beat him to it.

What is an NFT?

NFT or a non-fungible token is a digital form of assets like art, music, video games, etc. NFTs can be bought and sold digitally, and this is done mostly with cryptocurrency and they are further encoded with the same program as several forms of cryptos. When an NFT is sold then the creator (for example Leone, in this case) gets a certain amount of the money in the form of cryptocurrency. And following that, every time an NFT is sold, the creator gets some commission.

NFTs and Bollywood

Before Leone rolled out her NFT plan, Amitabh Bachchan had announced a similar idea. Bachchan’s NFT plan is expected to roll out in November but Leone has beaten him to it by reportedly becoming the first Bollywood celebrity to have her own NFT.

Leone has created a website for her NFTs and reports have it that she is going to be partnering with Mintdropz, a Silicon Valley-based startup, for this. On the website, it is mentioned that “The Sunny Leone NFT Metaverse is a collection of NFT’s - unique digital collectibles that will live on the Ethereum blockchain. Your Sunny Leone NFT is your membership access pass to the Exclusive content, Perks, and Access in Sunny Leone Metaverse.”

The site further adds - “Your Sunny Leone NFT Gives You Access to special NFT Membership perks like Unlockable Content, Access to Private Discord Channels, and Early Access to Future Drops.”

It remains to be seen what NFTs Leone will eventually roll out, but she has the first-mover advantage in the space for now.
