Swiggy, Zomato start delivering alcohol in Ranchi, here’s how to order it

Now that certain areas have been given a green chit for operating, food delivery companies have also started taking orders. But in Ranchi, it’s not just food. Swiggy and Zomato have apparently started delivering alcohol in Jharkhand’s capital now. This has, of course, started with necessary approvals from the state government and will probably be done for other states in future as well.

So how do you order alcohol from Swiggy and Zomato? Simple, you have to open the app and tap on the ‘Wine Shops’ category. Some might see this option already while others might not. This will however be visible for all in the coming days.

However, not anybody can order for alcohol from the app. Swiggy says that it would require a mandatory age verification (should be above 21 years of age), as reported by Gadgets 360. And this age verification is done when the person uploads a government ID and sends a selfie, which is then tallied by the food delivery firm to accept the order. The customer will be verified at the time of delivery using an OTP.

In addition to this, Swiggy states that it has put a cap on order quantity so just one customer doesn’t end up ordering alcohol above the prescribed limit set by the state law.

Needless to say, this move has been taken by the authorities so that people don’t crowd-up the wine shops and stay at homes, maintaining social distancing.

On a related note, Amazon has started a food delivery business in India, starting with Bengaluru.

Currently, Amazon Food is allowing customers to order from handpicked local restaurants and cloud kitchens that pass its "high hygiene certification bar," the company said on Thursday.
