Twitter India launches seven new custom emojis for the women’s cricket season

Twitter is promoting the women’s cricket season by introducing as many as seven new custom emojis. These arrive right before the women’s cricket league begins from 4th November and goes up until 9th November. All the four matches will be held in UAE and the tournament will be played between teams Supernovas, Trailblazers and Velocity which will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj respectively.

To launch these new emojis, Twitter India has joined hands with Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI Fans will be able to activate these emojis by Tweeting with the following hashtags: #MithaliRaj or #Mithali, #Harmanpreet or #Harman, #Smriti or #SM18, #WomensT20Challenge, #Velocity, #Supernovas and #Trailblazers.

In case you aren’t aware, this is the first time that an Indian women's sports league has got its own Twitter emoji. In 2017, Mithali Raj became the first woman cricketer from India to get an emoji during the Women’s Cricket World Cup. 

“Through these unique emojis, fans will be able to show instant support to their favourite teams and players on Twitter during the matches. Fans will also be able to follow and participate in live conversations,” says the microblogging website.

Talking about custom emojis, Twitter recently shared the history of these emojis during the International Internet Day.

Twitter launched the first set of custom emojis in India back in 2015. By 2016, Twitter had 39 custom emojis which grew to 62 in 2017, 39 in 2018, and 50 this year. Sports is one of the most popular events discussed on Twitter, and it occupies 435 of the custom emojis on the platform.
