WhatsApp for iOS beta gets Messenger Rooms

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, last month, announced the launch of Messenger Rooms. At the time of the launch, he had announced that Facebook’s family of apps, which includes WhatsApp and Instagram, would get the integration for the feature. Shortly after, the feature was spotted on the beta version of WhatsApp’s Android and web based platforms. Now, the Messenger Rooms feature has been spotted on the company’s iOS based app.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the blog that tracks developments in WhatsApp, the social messaging app has rolled out Messenger Rooms feature to the beta version of its iOS based app. iPhone users who are using WhatsApp beta for iOS can update their apps to version 2.20.52.6 to use this feature.

To use this feature, iPhone users will have to open a chat window and tap on the attachment picker tool or the plus icon on the bottom left corner of the chat window. Rooms feature will appear on the top of the list in the updated menu where it replaces the Camera option. The blog site says that once users tap on the Rooms option, they will be presented with an alert to introduce the feature. Once they tap on the continue option, WhatsApp will ask if they want to continue in Messenger. Alternatively, users can create a ‘Room’ when they call a contact via WhatsApp.

The report notes that this feature is available for select users in the US, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Dominican Republic and Mexico only, which means that other users who are using WhatsApp’s beta app on their iPhones may not be able to access this feature yet. As far as availability on the main app is concerned, Facebook has started rolling out the Messenger Rooms feature to its main app and Facebook Messenger and it should arrive on WhatsApp soon.
