Apple finally introduced picture-in-picture (PiP) mode with iOS 14. This feature lets you watch videos on a minimised screen and use other apps at the same time. YouTube’s website which had first supported PiP on iOS 14 was suddenly removed but it looks like the feature is back again.
Users who have updated their iPhones to iOS 14 can watch videos in PiP mode from browsers like Safari, Google Chrome and Firefox as well. To enable PiP, you’ll have to play the YouTube video in fullscreen mode then tap on the icon on top, and the screen will shrink. You can exit the browser and use other apps while the video plays in the background.
YouTube’s PiP mode for browsers was suddenly disabled shortly after iOS 14 was released. YouTube Premium subscribers could still access the feature. PiP however, doesn't work for the YouTube app on iOS 14. This is one feature YouTube Premium users have enjoyed on Android.
iOS 14’s PiP mode works on other apps like the Apple TV+, and Netflix. Apple rolled out iOS 14 last month, and it comes with major upgrades like customisable widgets that can be added to the home screen, and an app library as well.
