World Emoji Day: Here’s a look at all the new emojis coming to Apple, Android devices

Apple previews 13 new emojis and Google confirms 117 new ones for Android. Happy World Emoji Day everyone!

Celebrating World Emoji Day both Apple and Google have both announced new emojis that will be joining their ranks soon. For Apple, 13 new emojis will be rolling in with new updates by Fall and iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch users will be getting them. On Android, the list is a bit longer, Google has confirmed 117 new emojis that are coming in.

New emojis coming in for Apple include - a dodo, anatomical heart, nesting dolls, pinched fingers, piñata, tamale, boomerang, ninja, beaver, transgender symbol, bubble tea, coin and lungs. Here's a look at them all -

Apple is going to add more emojis, like people hugging, a disguised face and a smiling face with a tear, but for now it has previewed these 13.

Google's exhaustive list of emojis, that will roll out to all Android devices have a few emojis in common with Apple - for example the pinched fingers, smiling face with a tear and bubble tea, tamale, anatomical heart, piñata - but besides these, there are a whole lot more.

The 117 new emojis coming to Android this year through Android 11 also mark the return of some classics like the turtle. The new set has 62 new characters, 55 skin tones and gender representations. Here's a sneak peek at the lot -

All these emojis have been approved by the Unicode Consortium as a part of the Emoji 13.0 release.
