It’s been a busy day for Google Stadia. After onboarding two new titles, Jotun: Valhalla Edition and Sundered: Eldritch Edition, Stadia has also announced that Elder Scrolls Online is officially launching on June 16. Google Stadia also announced that it’s got a new 1440p streaming option for stadia.com, and it has been rolled out today.
The new resolution is meant for the Chrome browser only and will allow “players using a display with resolution between 1440p and 4K” a streaming option that is better than 1080p. The 2560 X 1440 option falls under the “best visual quality” level and you need your network and your hardware specs to meet all 4K requirements.
Google has not updated the existing Stadia supports docs to mention the new resolution and also, it is not clear how much data this 1440p will consume (1080p uses 12.6GB/hour and 4K takes up 20GB/hour).
You will need a Stadia Pro subscription since you need 4K requirement and your system must also support Vp9 hardware decoding. The option is more for those who do not have 4K monitors, but it also provides a more efficient setting for Stadia users who do.
