Oculus Quest 2 with Snapdragon XR2, 90Hz refresh rate launched

Facebook-owned Oculus on Thursday announced the launch of the next-generation all-in-one VR, Oculus Quest 2. The new VR headset comes with a new form factor coupled with new touch controllers. It also offers highest-resolution display ever on an Oculus VR.

Oculus Quest 2 is priced at $299 ( ₹22,000 approximately), about $100 cheaper than the original Quest VR. The VR is already available for pre-order. It is scheduled to start shipping on October 13.

Oculus says the new Quest 2 comes with a superior Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform which helps deliver better AI capabilities. The chipset is coupled with 6GB of RAM. The improved display comes with 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye. For a more immersive experience, Oculus Quest 2 comes with 90Hz display. Home Environment, Explore, Store, Browser and Oculus TV will support the faster refresh rate out-of-the-box.

While touch controllers have the same controls, they have been modified to deliver better ergonomics. The controllers deliver battery life up to four times longer than Quest’s touch controllers.

With Quest 2, Oculus is also expanding the content library. The new VR will support upcoming titles such as Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, Myst, Jurassic World Aftermath, Warhammer 40,000 Battle Sister, Pistol Whip: 2089, The Climb 2, and Rez Infinite, among others.

The device is compatible with Oculus Link which enables PC VR gaming. Oculus adds Asgard’s Wrath, Stormland and Lone Echo, as well as upcoming titles like Lone Echo II and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will be available for Quest 2 users.
