Google Android 12 OS set to change your lockscreen's look and feel; here’s what this update is all about

Google, earlier this week, released the fourth beta version of its upcoming Android 12 mobile operating system. This update brings tons of new changes to Google’s upcoming OS, which includes performance improvements, privacy and security enhancements among others. Google said that Android 12 Beta 4 has reached Platform Stability, a milestone that means all app-facing surfaces and behaviors are now final in Android 12. Google has already listed the changes that it has brought to the OS. Now, a new report talks about an unlisted change that the company has released as a part of its Android 12 beta 4 update.

According to a report by 9To5 Google, Google has made important changes to its lockscreen. Firstly, the company has changed the font that it has been using on the homescreen until now. The company has changed the font that it uses in the lockscreen to Google Sans. This font is a bit wider and more rounded than the font Roboto that the company has been using until now and it makes up for a better reading experience.

In addition to that, Google has also made tweaks to the Now Playing music identification feature. The publication says that the Now Playing feature uses the Google Sans font, which is the same one that is available on Gboard and other areas of Android. Apart from that, the company has also made some changes to the Cards and Passes icon on the lockscreen. The older icon had a wallet full of cards. The new icon looks like a credit card with a magnetic stripe, which makes it easy to identify. Lastly, the company has also changed the location of the device lock indicator. In the latest update, this icon has been moved up into a more central position from the lower position where it was placed up until now.

Separately, Google has said that it has made changes to its Privacy dashboard. “A new dashboard in Settings lets users see which apps are accessing which type of data and when. Users can adjust permissions if needed, and they can request details from your app on the reason for access,” the company wrote in a blog post. Google also said that Android 12 now shows an indicator in the status bar when an app is using the camera or microphone. It also has new toggles in Quick Settings that enable users to instantly disable microphone and camera access for all apps. It has also introduced special app splash screen animations for app launches.
