Google makes it easier for you to find films, shows to watch right now

Google says that the searches for ‘what to watch’ and ‘best movies’ have gone up significantly since late March this year. And that’s understandable since that’s when the lockdown began, not only in India but also across the world. However, by now we are pretty certain you have exhausted your ‘what I need to watch now that I have time’ list and are looking out for good recommendations.

Google has you covered. Starting today, Google will be rolling out a new experience on Google Search to help you with content to watch. People searching for things like ‘good shows to watch’ or ‘what to watch’ will be able to see an organised set of recommendations from several streaming platforms like Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLiv, Voot, Google Play Movies & TV, and YouTube.

This new search function will be available in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada and English for now and additional languages and streaming providers will be added soon. You can also ‘edit providers’ to choose which streaming platform subscriptions you already have. This will help you get more personalised recommendations and also save time on figuring out exactly where you can watch the content or rent it.

In addition to finding recommendations in Search, with the ‘Watchlist’ feature you can save shows for later. After searching “what to watch,” just tap on ‘Watchlist’ in the preview window to add it to the viewing list. You can navigate between recommendations and the ‘Watchlist’ tab so you won’t lose track of what’s already been saved.

You can also focus your searches better with specific terms like “Bollywood movies of 2019” or “documentaries on serial killers”.

Google is going to add more features and categories to this function with future updates.
