Google Maps glitch! Users shocked by strange voice with 'Indian link'; bug suspected

Google Maps is one of the most widely used navigation services in the world, and it offers users a wide range of features, from the ability to see details of restaurants to traffic information and turn by turn navigation instructions. Google has over three billion active Android devices, and the company revealed in 2019 that over a billion users relied on Google Maps. However, as with every online service, a bug is occasionally spotted, and the latest one affecting Google Maps results in an unexpected voice playing while navigating using the service.

The issues were first spotted by PiunikaWeb, with some users noticing their Google Maps navigation instructions were being read out in a different accent, without any changes made on their end. According to the report, users have noticed that the voice used for navigation changes intermittently to a different one than the voice they were originally used to navigating with. Some users have reported that the ‘female’ voice has changed to a male with a ‘slight Indian accent’, while some are claiming they heard a voice with a ‘Persian accent’.

The report goes on to state that some users are also reporting that they are unable to change the default voice on their devices at all, leaving them helpless. Another user stated that they heard the default voice for most of the trip, while the unexpected voice was heard ‘for one instruction’.

Meanwhile, one of the users received a response from the official Google Maps Twitter account, where the company acknowledged the issue. “The team is working on a fix and it will be rolled out soon. Thank you for your patience,” the company explained. It looks like Google Maps users will have to wait until a fix is rolled out by the company – from the company’s response, it could be issued in the near future.
