Google Meet adds noise cancelling for video calls, but you might have to wait to get it

Google is adding noise cancellation for video meetings on the Google Meet app. The feature is rolling out on Android and iOS both. However, some Google Meet users will have to wait a little longer for the feature to reach them since Google is first bringing it to G Suite Enterprise for Education and G Suite Enterprise users.

So, if you use neither G Suite Enterprise for Education nor G Suite Enterprise, we suggest you wait a bit before you update the app.

For now, only G Suite Enterprise and G Suite Enterprise for Education customers can use this feature.

The noise cancellation support gives users access to clearer audio during video calls. Since this is such an important feature, we expect Google to roll it out to all Google Meet users soon but we do not have a timeline yet.

Google has confirmed that that noise cancelling feature will be turned off by default and will need to be turned on from the Call Settings Menu. From Call Settings Menu, users must go to Audio and then turn Noise Cancellation on.

Noise cancellation will help facilitate better audio for video meetings and video calls by eliminating background noise.

Google Meet can now intelligently filter out background noise on Android and iOS. This means Meet will automatically remove distracting from your mobile device’s audio input while still letting your voice through, Google explained on the update feed for G Suite.

This means that you could be in a noisy room and still manage to make it through your meetings and calls. With most of us still working from home, some noisy environments like ongoing construction next door or noisy neighbours are beyond our control. A feature like noise cancellation is of immense help in these situations.
