Google Stadia cancelled projects included Savage Planet 2, horror game by Kojima

Google earlier this month announced that it is shutting down its internal game development studio called the Stadia Games and Entertainment (SG&E). Now, a new report sheds light on the projects that were in the works when Google made the announcement.

As per a report by VideoGamesChronicle (via 9To5 Google), SG&E was working on a multiplayer action game under the codename ‘Frontier.’ The team developing that game was reportedly led by Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate producer and it reportedly found out about the cancellation in February as the news went public.

In addition to that, the report says that Google’s purchase of Typhoon Studios would have resulted in a sequel to the Journey to the Savage Planet, which would have rolled out this month. This project too was cancelled and the team found out about the cancellation alongside the public announcement.

Similarly, Harmonix has been said to be working on a music game, which the report says was ‘virtually complete’. But the new report says that like the above-mentioned games, Harmonix’s upcoming too was dropped from Stadia’s lineup. However, in response to VGC’s report Harmonix CEO has claimed the game has not been cancelled.

Lastly, the report states that Google was working with Kojima Productions on a horror game. However, this game was blocked by Stadia VP Phil Harrison. The report pointed out Hideo Kojima last summer that said he was “pretty pissed” over the project’s cancellation.
