It's not just you, Google Docs is currently down for everyone

About two hours and forty-five minutes after Google acknowledged the issue with a few of its services, it appears that the services have now been restored. We were able to create a Google Doc from the address bar as well as from the Google Docs web interface and from Google Drive at around 10 PM IST — none of these solutions were working when the outage was first reported earlier today. Google's Workspace Status Dashboard has also been updated to reflect the restoration of service. 

“The problem with Google Docs has been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better,” the company's message reads on the Workspace Status Dashboard.

Google's cloud-based document editor and office suite are pretty great, especially if you're working with an extremely lean budget and want a web based system that lets you quickly move between smartphones, tablets and your computers. However, every once in a while, these online services either go offline or are partially unavailable — and it looks like Google Docs is the latest service to be affected.

At around 7 PM IST, users began to complain on Twitter that they were unable to create new Google Docs via the web or the mobile app. It is interesting to note that while users are able to sign in to the web interface at docs.google.com, they are currently unable to create a new document. When we attempted to create a new Google Doc ourselves, we were greeted with the following message.

According to Downdetector, it appears that the partial outage seems to have affected users across the world, with a small spike in reports coming in over the past half hour. Most of the user comments over at Downdetector also state that they are currently facing issues with Google Drive and Google Docs. Although we only faced issues with creating new files with the latter, it appears that some users are also facing issues copying and creating files on Google Drive.

On the Google Workspace Status Dashboard, the company has acknowledged the issue and stated that it is investigating the issue. It notes that “affected users are able to access Google Drive, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior” and that “Affected user (sic) are unable to create new documents”. Users around the world that rely on Google Docs are clearly hoping the company is able to quickly restore access and brings its services back online as no one wants to be disconnected from their work on a Monday.
