PM Modi, Sundar Pichai discuss data security, cyber safety ahead of Google for India event

Google is set to host the sixth edition of Google for India event in India today. The event which will be held virtually this year will witness Alphabet Inc CEO Sundar Pichai presenting a special keynote address. Ahead of the upcoming event, Pichai had a special interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi wherein the duo had a discussion on a host of topics ranging between data security to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the interaction Pichai also apprised PM Modi about Google’s various initiatives in various fields such as education, payments and learning among other things.

“During our interaction, @sundarpichai and I spoke about the new work culture that is emerging in the times of COVID-19. We discussed the challenges the global pandemic has brought to areas such as sports. We also talked about the importance of data security and cyber safety,” PM Modi wrote in a tweet.

“I was delighted to know more about the efforts of @Google in several sectors, be it in education, learning, @_DigitalIndia, furthering digital payments and more. @sundarpichai,” he wrote in a subsequent tweet.

Coming back to Google for India event, the yearly event will begin at 2PM today and it will be live-streamed via Google India’s YouTube channels. Apart from Pichai, the event will see Union Minister of Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Union HRD Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in attendance.

While the company hasn’t revealed as to what is plans to announce or unveil at its upcoming event, but we expect the company to announce upgrades to its Payments platform and Google Assistant among others.
