Realme C2 vs Xiaomi Redmi Go: Battle of entry-level smartphones

Realme on Monday launched a new entry-level smartphone, Realme C2. Available at a starting price of ₹5,999, Realme C2 is the successor to Realme C1 which launched in India last year. The latest Realme smartphone will compete with Xiaomi's Redmi Go, which is available in India at a starting price of ₹4,499.

Design

Realme has now extended its popular Diamond Cut design to its entry-level phones. While the rear is still plastic, a graphic design gives unique look in a segment that's crowded with identical phones. On the front Realme C2 has a notch with HD screen offering a 19:5:9 aspect ratio.

Compared to Realme C2, Xiaomi's Redmi Go looks dated with a plain back panel and 16:9 screen with on-screen capacitive touch buttons. Redmi Go has a 5-inch HD display whereas Realme C2 has a larger 6.1-inch HD+ display.

Camera

Xiaomi Redmi Go offers dual-rear cameras including 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. The rear camera setup has 4-element lens, ƒ/2.0 aperture, Single LED flash, Auto-focus, and HDR. On the front it offers 5-megapixel selfie camera. Realme C2 offers 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear cameras with PDAF Fast Focusing, F/2.2 Aperture, and 5P Lens. On the front Realme C2 has 5-megapixel selfie camera. Both Realme C2 and Xiaomi Redmi Go are capable of capturing full HD (1080p) videos.

Performance

Realme C2 is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 processor with 2GB and 3GB RAM. The phone comes with 16GB and 32GB built-in storage with support for expandable storage up to 256GB.

Redmi Go is powered by an older Snapdragon 425 processor with 1GB of RAM. The phone comes in 1GB RAM with 8GB storage and 1GB RAM with 16GB storage variants. The phone supports expandable storage up to 128GB. Realme C2 houses a 4,000mAh battery while Redmi Go has a 3,000mAh battery.

The biggest difference is that Realme C2 runs on ColorOS, a custom UI on top of Android 9.0, whereas Redmi Go is based on Google's Android One programme. Android One programme ensures faster performance with limited storage and RAM capacity. The UI is also near stock with minimum customisation.

Summing up

Redmi Go is cheaper than Realme C2 but it comes with lesser RAM and storage capacity. It also has an old design. Realme C2 looks more modern with better specifications.
