Safer Internet Day 2022: Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic hit us, we have all moved to the safer havens of the online world. But the online world, just like reality, isn’t safe and you always run the risk of making one mistake that ends up messing up your life. Never give away your credentials

There is a massive rise in scams where some malicious person impersonates someone, tricking you to share your confidential details. If you ever receive calls, or messages that claim to offer respite from closing bank accounts, incurring hefty fines, or asking for an OTP, you should always stay away from these. Remember, no bank or institution asks for your crucial credentials.

Keep changing passwords

Passwords are easily hackable and hence, you should always keep changing them frequently. Never opt for a predictable password that can be guessed by anyone. Always try outing special characters, uppercase letters, and unique combination to increase account security. You can use Google’s Security Checkup tool in Chrome browser to check for password security status, and can even let Google choose a complex password for you.

Two-factor verification

This is the best way to secure your online accounts. Whether its Gmail or Instagram, you can switch on the two-factor authentication system to enhance account security. Every time someone tries to logon to your account, you will get a login OTP code. DO NOT share this with anyone asking for the code.

Report shady people on social media

Whether it is some troll or a stalker, it is always advisable to block the person immediately. Stalkers and trolls can often cause mental harassment if ignored for a long time. If blocking the account does not help, try limiting your social media account to Private mode. Even if that doesn’t help, you should contact the authorities immediately.

Hide hateful comments, like counts

Instagram and Twitter offer you options to hide your like counts, or hide hateful comments on your posts. You can even limit the visibility of your content, or prevent certain people from commenting.
