Twitter launched ‘Fleets’ its Instagram Stories-like feature last year in November. It has now added the ability for users to disable replies and reactions to their Fleets.
Similar to Instagram Stories, replies and reactions to Fleets show up as Direct Messages (DMs). Users can respond through text replies or send emoji reactions to Fleets. Twitter is now making it possible for users who don’t wish to receive these replies to disable it. Android users can tap on the arrow next to the Fleet button and toggle off “Allow Direct Messages”. This will disable replies to Fleets.
Twitter has launched this feature for users on Android. It plans on rolling it out to iOS soon. Instagram already offers this option for Stories, and it’s a useful one as not everyone would like to receive replies. Twitter also lets anyone reply to Fleets as opposed to the option for users to follow each other if they want to DM them.
This feature comes shortly after Twitter introduced “Twemoji” for Fleets. This feature offers a set of stickers that users can put on top of any image or video on their Fleet. There’s a new sticker tray at the top of the Fleet creation window that users can tap on to select any of the Twemoji and move them around the image or video.
Twitter first started Fleets in Brazil then it later brought the feature to india. After a few months of testing, Twitter Fleets became widely available in more countries. Twitter is also working on its Clubhouse-competitor Spaces which it plans to roll out globally in April.
