It’s World Emoji Day and Google has confirmed the final list list of emoji coming to Android 11 later this year. A total of 117 new emoji including the return of some classics will be available on Android 11.
The new set of emoji in Android 11 features 62 new characters, 55 skin tone and gender representations. There’s quite a few very relatable emoji this year like the smiling face with a tear, pinched fingers, and bubble tea. More emoji in Android 11 include an anatomical heart, piñata, a long drum and even a tamale.
Google has also updated its animal emoji library with the return of the classic turtle from Android 7.1. There’s even a black cat emoji now. Google said it worked with the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Victoria Bug Zoo to make the animal emoji characters look more real.
Google has made some changes to some emoji for dark mode as well. These emoji will look much better when used in dark mode. The previews show dark grey coloured shades on emoji characters like a cat, gorilla, heart, sheep and even a rabbit. Another update is the quick access emoji bar on Gboard. It appears just above the keyboard and it will feature a list of emoji making it easier for users to access them.
The new set of emoji is already available for users on Android 11 beta. It will roll out with the stable release of Android 11 later this year.
