It looks like Google Chrome is soon going to bring some major design changes for its Android browser. Google is generally hesitant to make any major changes to its Chrome browser to avoid glitches given its large user base, but it appears that it will change after a long time. If reports are to be believed, the new Google Chrome tab page can get a complete makeover. It is not known when a wider release of this update will be seen, but over the weekend, this new design was rolled out to a batch of users. This new design change will make the Android browser more dynamic and add more vertical space for Google Discover and RSS feed. What is this new design change? Read on to find out.

First reported by 9to5Google, Google Chrome for Android is all set to let go of its static recently visited websites bar for a more dynamic view by adding a carousel. This will change the current grid pattern which is contained in two rows, to a single row which can be swiped left and right. It will also add more site information compared to before.

Google Chrome gets a design update

Earlier, the Google Chrome new page tab on Android devices contained the Google logo, the omnibox for search and URL entry and shortcuts for recently visited sites. These sites were arranged in a 4 x 2 grid and displayed a total of 8 websites. This design pattern has been there for years without any significant updates. It is understood that Google refrained from changes as design changes take longer for people to get comfortable with, and with the large user base it had, there was a risk of negative feedback.

However, with this Google Chrome update, now the 4 x 2 grid for recently visited websites will be replaced with a single row carousel which can be swiped. The total number of visible website shortcuts has also been increased to 12 which will be housed within the carousel. Users will get to see 4-5 pages in one go, as opposed to all 8 at once. The rest can be accessed by swiping the list on the right or left.

It is believed that this change has been brought to give more vertical space to Discover and RSS feeds. It is not certain when Google will roll-out this feature to more users.
