The last time she appeared in a film was in 2019 when she played the role of Bahaar Begum in Kalank and was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Ever since then, she has appeared in one Netflix web series and appeared as one of the judges in Dance Deewane. But finally, she has returned to the silver screen this year. And to make it even better, it is a direct-to-OTT film called Maja Ma. The movie tells the story of a conservative family with Madhuri Dixit playing the role of Pallavi, the wife of a timid husband and mother to a family-oriented son and a daughter who believes in fighting for just causes. As the son falls in love with an NRI woman, the marriage and the family itself comes under the threat of breaking apart as rumors spread about Pallavi.

Despite its serious undertones, the movie manages to keep a lighthearted and fun appeal to it. Apart from Dixit, the movie casts Gajraj Rao, Ritwik Bhowmik, Srishti Shrivastava, Barkha Singh and others.
