LastPass Free users will lose access to this critical feature in one month

Starting next month, users of LastPass’s free password manager service will find themselves restricted by a very severe limitation - Lastpass is removing cross-platform functionality for free users and forcing them to choose between desktop or mobile.

If you’re using LastPass free at the moment, March 16 will be a fork in the road, according to a post on the LastPass official blog. When that time comes you’ll have to pick which device you want to see and manage passwords on. Your passwords will then be available on either desktop or mobile, depending on which you choose.

While it is certainly unfortunate that LastPass’ free service is being hampered in what seems an attempt by LastPass owners LogMeIn to get more users to the paid plans, it may be a sign for many users to finally switch to a different service. If you’re looking for a free service to replace LastPass, make sure to choose a good, secure and reliable alternative.

One of the most highly recommended and easy to use replacements for LastPass free is Kyle Spearrin’s Bitwarden, a free and open-source password management service that is has a very generous free tier. It supports most of LastPass’ features and reserves a small set of features for paying customers for a very small price.

Another free alternative with syncing is NordPass, which is also reliable - you get unlimited passwords storage, but there’s a catch. You can only remain signed in to one device at a time. So while you can use NordPass on both your laptop and smartphone, you cannot remainsigned in to both at the same time. Overall, Bitwarden is definitely the better choice.
