Now you can ask Google Assistant to play your favourite songs on Spotify

Google, last month, rolled out Android 11 on to millions of Android smartphones across the globe. Now, the company has started rolling out a bunch of new features to its AI-powered virtual assistant, that is, Google Assistant. One of those features is the support for third-party apps to Google Assistant.

“We’re extending the convenience of simple Assistant voice commands to work with your favorite Android apps,” Google wrote in a blog post adding that this update is available on all Google Assistant-enabled Android smartphones.

With this update, Android smartphone users will be able to access and navigate through various features of the third-party apps on their smartphones simply by asking Google Assistant to do so, which in turn would make using these apps a whole lot easier.

For instance, Android users can ask Google Assistant to search for cozy blankets on Etsy or look for Selena Gomez on Snapchat. In addition to that, users will also be able to do tasks such as ask Google Assistant to Play Taylor Swift’s Folklore on Spotify or check for the latest news on Twitter.

Google says that this newly introduced feature is available for over 30 apps on the Google Play Store globally. The list includes Twitter, Walmart, Discord, Spotify, Snapchat, MyFitnessPal and Nike Run Club. Google says that it will add support for more Android apps to this feature in the coming days.

In addition to this, Google has also added a functionality that enables users to create custom shortcut phrases to access specific features of these specific apps. “So instead of saying “Hey Google, tighten my shoes with Nike Adapt,” you can create a shortcut to just say, “Hey Google, lace it.” You can explore suggested shortcuts or create your own by simply saying, "Hey Google, show my shortcuts" to get to the settings screen,” the company added.
