Spotify, Google reveal what people have been listening to this summer

Spotify and Google have shared what people have been listening to this summer. The listening trends have been taken from May 10 till June 10 and on Spotify and Google Nest, Home smart speakers.

Drake turned out to be the top-streamed artist followed by Lady Gaga and The Weeknd. Both Lady Gaga and The Weeknd released new albums during this time. Drake was a fan favourite in countries like India. Google Trends also revealed that searches for “summertime songs” increased by over 1,150% and “songs that remind you of summer” by over 1,000%.

Spotify has also made a personalised playlist called “Your Summer Rewind”. You can find this playlist on the home screen of the Spotify app. It features songs you listened to the most during last year’s summer. Spotify also predicts “Songs of Summer” with tracks like Childish Gambino’s This is America and Kendrick Lamar’s Alright as the popular hits for this summer.

Spotify suggests the resurgence of these songs is due to the “cultural conversations focused on supporting the Black community”. Searches for This is America also spiked over 700% in May, Google said.

You can find these tracks and more on Spotify’s Songs of Summer playlist. If you have a Google Nest or Home device you can simply say, “Hey Google, play Songs of Summer”. The playlist features songs like Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga’s Rain on Me.
