Dell Inspiron 14 5410 2-in-1: Design

Dell tries to give the laptop a professional and classy look with platinum silver paintjob and a smooth matte finish. The well-rounded edges make it easy to hold in the tablet mode. I liked the flexibility of the hinge which makes it super easy to switch to the tablet mode and vice versa. Despite being a convertible, the laptop is slim and the weight is manageable as a laptop. However, while using it as a tablet I found it a bit heavy and uncomfortable in comparison to a conventional tablet device, like an iPad for example.

Coming to the ports and slots, you will get a micro SD reader, USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A, audio jack, power jack, HDMI 1.4b, USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with Power Delivery and Video.

The 14-inch IPS LCD display of the Dell Inspiron 14 has a FullHD resolution with touchscreen support, which is quick and responsive. The display also offers relatively narrow bezels which makes for better immersion than conventional laptops. However, because of the glass, you will face reflections under brightly lit ambience as well as smudges that don't go away easily. You have to adjust the brightness accordingly in order to use it comfortably. You get a regular refresh rate of 60Hz, which for most people should be fine. That said, with Asus democratising an OLED display, I wish Dell offered an exciting display; either an OLED option or a high refresh rate panel. The Dell Inspiron 14 (5410) 2-in-1 also gives you a physical privacy shutter for the webcam.

The Dell Inspiron 14 5410 is sprightly from the get go -- boot it up and it's ready for the adventures. Opening the lid boots up the system automatically, which is a nifty feature. The fingerprint scanner on the power button is quick and justifies its role to unlock the laptop by providing a sense of security.

Now Dell does not compromise on the processor here: it is an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-11320H that is accompanied by 16GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM and a 512GB PCIe SSD storage. I can say that at no point of time while using the laptop for regular stuff, I felt that it ran out of breath. On a regular working day with 10-15 tabs opened on Google Chrome, which includes social media websites, working on several word docs simultaneously, and few more apps, I did not find the Dell Inspiron 14 5410 complaining. Even the background updates were quick and did not bother my work. That Intel Iris Xe keeps up with minor photo editing but don't consider gaming on this one; this isn't meant for gaming.

The keyboard itself was comfortable to use even while typing at a good speed for almost 9 hours at a stretch. However, the trackpad did trouble me a bit with its overtly sensitivity. This could be good for your though, and those who find this an issue will be better off by turning off the trackpad momentarily.

I also watched videos, attended video calls, listened to music; everything seemed fine too. The speaker placement compromised the volume and the audio itself is sub-par in quality. In the tablet mode though, the volume is a tad higher. I recommend using your headphones for better results.

Dell Inspiron 14 5410 2-in-1: Battery Life

Fitting a 41WHr battery on a convertible laptop meant for WFH and play seems like a bad idea. The battery life is far from what Dell claims: it sustains for a mere 4-4.5 hours on a single charge. Note that this was with constant connection to Wi-Fi and subjecting it to regular workloads. Watch videos or movies and the battery drains even faster. The lack of a fast charging mechanism meant I had to wait for almost two hours to get this juiced up.

Dell Inspiron 14 5410 2-in-1: Verdict

Except for the battery life, the Dell Inspiron 14 5410 2-in-1 convertible impressed us with its versatility and overall performance. Now equipped with Windows 11, the combo of the 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and ample RAM as well as a decently fast SSD storage makes the Inspiron 14 5410 a reliable and fast laptop; for both work and play. If you are looking for a solid convertible Windows laptop under 70,000 and battery life isn't a massive concern, I can't think of any other 2-in-1 laptop at this price to recommend over the Dell.

However, as with most 2-in1's, practicality takes a hit and the Dell Inspiron 14 5410 is no exception. Those looking for better battery life should stick with conventional laptops. If a 2-in-1 is your thing, and you did not like this Dell, you can take a look at the Lenovo Flex 5i with a starting price of 65,410, or the pricier HP Envy x360 13 costing 84,999.
