Cyberpunk 2077 official modding support tools released, fix for game-breaking bug coming soon

The developers of Cyberpunk 2077, widely considered the year’s most highly anticipated game as well as its most disappointing letdown, have released official modding support for the game. The arrival of official modding support should make the game even more interesting.

The modding tools were released on the game’s official website with a disclaimer asking users to read the licence agreement “before downloading (the tools) and diving in'', according to this report, which also quips that users can fix the game by themselves. However, that statement may not be too far from the truth, given how websites like NexusMods helped games like The Elder Scrolls Skyrim and The Witcher 3, with users pitching in with useful mods.

The official site for Cyberpunk 2077 currently hosts version 1.1.0 of the games metadata, which is supposedly required by the modding tools, another tool called ArchiveDump that lists the contents of game data archives. Another tool called TweakDump helps listing contents of game settings files, is also available on the site. Users with modding experience can get started with the process of modifying the game to their personal preferences right away. CD Projekt Red also promises that the tools will be continuously updated alongside with game patches to ensure compatibility, which is reassuring.

The news comes days after CD Projekt Red’s Patch 1.1 was released that brought along a large amount of open world and quest fixes, but also introduced an incredibly annoying and game-busting bug. The patch, when installed, prevents the storyline from progressing when your character receives a call from another person called Takemura. The developer suggested a workaround which involves an earlier save and skipping 23 hours in the game to receive the holocall. CD Projekt Red is also planning to send a hotfix for the new bug "as soon as possible."
