Google is honouring Amelia Earhart, American aviation pioneer and author, with a plane-shaped doodle to commemorate her 115th birthday. Earhart was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Born on July 24, 1897 in Kansas, Earhart was an adventurous child and was usually called a tomboy. An inspirational ride in the plane in the 1920 with her father sealed her fate. She went to create many records in flying including First woman to fly nonstop, coast-to-coast across the U.S and First woman to fly the Atlantic solo.

On July 2, 1937, Earhart left in Electra, her flying laboratory, never to be found again. After many search and rescue missions, she was declared legally dead in 1959. Her death still remains a mystery.

Popularly known as the Queen of Air, Earhart also wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences such as 20 Hrs., 40 Min.: Our Flight in the Friendship and The Fun Of It.
