WhatsApp two-step verification now live on Android, iPhones and Windows

As a part of the new feature, users will be able to verify their number on the app on a new device more securely by using a six-digit passcode.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has finally rolled out the two-step verification process. The testing of the feature had started in November last year.

Your favourite app, WhatsApp, is finally getting the two-step verification process for Android, iOS (iPhones) and Windows as the Facebook-owned instant messaging app has slowly started rolling out the feature.

As a part of the new feature, users will be able to verify their number on the app on a new device more securely by using a six-digit passcode.

So essentially if you want to have the two-step verification, then you need head to WhatsApp setting, go to account and move to two-step verification and then enable it. As soon as you enable the feature, you will need to enter a passcode of choice and optionally provide an email address to help if you want to recover your account if you forget the passcode.

"This email address will allow WhatsApp to send you a link via email to disable two-step verification in case you ever forget your six-digit passcode, and also to help safeguard your account," the FAQ page for the feature reads.

However, WhatsApp doesn't verify the email address to confirm if the email is genuine. So provide a genuine one if you don't want to get locked out of your account.

Additionally, if you have WhatsApp two-step verification enabled, your phone number will not be permitted to reverify on the app within seven days of last using WhatsApp without your passcode.

"After these 7 days, your number will be permitted to reverify on WhatsApp without your passcode, but you will lose all pending messages upon reverifying - they will be deleted. If your number is reverified on WhatsApp after 30 days of last using WhatsApp, and without your passcode, your account will be deleted and a new one will be created upon successfully reverifying," the FAQ page reads further.
