From March 16, you will be able to whip out your phone, tap the Zomato app, order food from your favourite neighbourhood restaurant, and have it delivered right to your doorstep. Zomato is launching a food-delivery service in India next month.

The service is expected to have 2,000 reatuarants on board when it launches, but Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal told Techcrunch that the company expects to reach 10,000 restaurants within months. It will be available in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore to begin with and more cities will be added over time. 'We will also launch the service overseas in a few months starting with Dubai, Jakarta, Manila and Sydney,' Goyal told the Hindustan Times.

Zomato is taking cues from Uber in how it implements the service. Once restaurants sign up, they'll be given iPads that will act as dedicated hotlines for receiving customer orders. Customers will also have to rate their experience each time they order. This rating, TechCrunch reports, will be displayed as a part of the restaurant's overall rating in the Zomato app. Much like Uber claimed to simply be a platform that connected customers and drivers, Goyal tells us that the app will act as a tech platform that allows users to select their dishes and order their meals online. Customers can pay with cash once their receive their orders.

Zomato currently makes money from in-app native advertising from restaurants, but the food delivery service will be an additional revenue stream. It will take a cut of each order, but there will be a twist: the higher the customer rating, the smaller the cut that Zomato will take (to a maximum of 15 percent for the lowest feedback). 'Our revenues are likely to double in the next fiscal with this new revenue model,' says Goyal.
