An asteroid crashed against Earth and wiped out all the dinosaurs! If these huge creatures could not survive these space rocks, think about how humans will survive the same. You can either wait for the inevitable or do something to save humanity from turning into a spec of dust. Well, China is already on it.- Its mission is to target all the dangerous asteroids and stop them from crashing into the Earth.

A leading Chinese university has started building a system of more than 20 huge radar antennae to monitor asteroids that might pose a threat to Earth. The Beijing Institute of Technology is in charge of the project, known as China Fuyan (or "compound eye") , reports Space.com.

Little is known about this project but as per the Chinese press, it is suggested that the system will be the world's farthest-reaching radar system. It seeks to capture, monitor, and assess the likelihood of asteroids impacting Earth by reflecting signals off asteroids within 93 million miles (150 million kilometres) of Earth, or roughly as far as the sun.

Talking of asteroids, they are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun. Although asteroids orbit the Sun like planets, they are very much smaller than planets. There are a huge number of asteroids in our solar system. Most of them are located in the main asteroid belt – a region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

According to NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies, some 26,115 asteroids have skimmed past Earth since 1990.
