WhatsApp is crucial to every day conversations spanning work, family, entertainment, hobbies and much more. Needless to say, there are many things on most people's WhatsApp chats that they would never want anyone to see. These can be private photos, financial data, usernames and passwords or something totally different. However, phones do get handed around between friends and family and sometimes they are forgotten on colleagues' desks or at other people's homes or even in public places. Most of the times, there is no harm done. However, sometimes, some people can pick them up and scroll through your WhatsApp or other contents. Most people have hardly any security feature enabled to lock everyone out. Also, if you happen to share your phone often, then most probably everyone knows the 'pattern' that unlocks it. However, there are two ways that will keep the content on your Apple iPhone safe from prying eyes.

If you enable these features then, even if you hand over the iPhone to others, you can actually lock your WhatsApp in a way that no one can open this messenger app. You can lock your WhatsApp with secondary security features and these are Touch ID and Face ID.

WhatsApp says, "You must use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock WhatsApp. You can still reply to messages from notifications and answer calls if WhatsApp is locked."

WhatsApp says, "In order to use Touch ID or Face ID for WhatsApp, you must first enable it in iPhone Settings."

How to enable Touch ID or Face ID on your iPhone

1. Open WhatsApp Settings.

2. Tap Account > Privacy > Screen Lock.

3. Turn on Require Touch ID or Require Face ID.

4. Select the length of time WhatsApp can be on standby mode before Touch ID or Face ID is required.

How to Disable Touch ID or Face ID on your iPhone

1. Open WhatsApp Settings.

2. Tap Account > Privacy > Screen Lock.

3. Turn off Require Touch ID or Require Face ID.

Note: If Touch ID or Face ID doesn't unlock WhatsApp, you can enter your iPhone passcode.
