Lunar eclipse 2021 today: A partial lunar eclipse or Chandra Grahan will occur on Friday, November 19, 2021 and will be visible in a few Indian states. (NASA)

A partial lunar eclipse or Chandra Grahan will occur on Friday, November 19, 2021 and will be visible (not with naked eye) from a few areas of East India, informed Dr Subhendu Pattnaik, Deputy Director, Pathani Samanta Planetarium. He put the Lunar eclipse 2021 time at 12:47 pm. The Lunar eclipse will end at 4:17 pm. "The longest partial lunar eclipse will occur (on 19 November) & will start at 12.47 pm & end at 4.17 pm. The rare phenomenon will be visible (Not with naked eye) from a few areas of East India: Dr Subhendu Pattnaik, Dy Director, Pathani Samanta Planetarium," ANI tweeted. The Chandra Grahan will be visible from a few areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, according to Director of Research and Academic at MP Birla Planetarium, Debiprosad Duari, as per PTI. The peak of the eclipse will be at 2.34pm when 97 per cent of the Moon will be covered by the Earth's shadow.

He further added that the duration of the lunar eclipse will be 3 hours 28 minutes and 24 seconds, making it the longest in 580 years.

What is Lunar eclipse?

Lunar eclipse is a natural phenomenon which occurs when the earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon and hence blocks the light of the Sun from reaching the Moon. As the Moon is not able to receive the Sun light due to the blockage by earth it is left dark causing lunar eclipse.

Apart from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, the lunar eclipse will be visible from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha but it can be seen only briefly from these places, according to hindustantimes.com.
