It is an opportunity to target hundreds of thousands of users at one go. Despite various security checks, hackers and scammers always find a way to attack unsuspecting users. The losses are massive for those who get cheated. Therefore, if you make even one mistake with your WhatsApp account, it will invite online crooks to try and take advantage. Hence, cyber security experts have warned WhatsApp users to make sure that they use the best possible security settings provided in the app. Failing to do so, can make you a prime target. Yes, we are not saying take any extra security measures, the solution lies within WhatsApp itself. All you have to do is switch it on.

One of the most important settings you should make sure to activate is the two-step verification. This way, the chances of getting swindled or falling prey to cyber attacks can be reduced manifold.ow. Know what you should do.

Know how to activate the two-step verification settings on WhatsApp

Step 1:

First of all, open WhatsApp Settings.

Step 2:

Then tap Account and go to the Two-step verification option. 

Step 3:

Now Enable it and enter a six-digit PIN of your choice and confirm it.

Step 4:

You will need to provide an email address you can access or tap Skip if you don’t want to add an email address. Then, tap Next.

Step 5:

Finally, confirm the email address and tap Save or Done.

Step 6:

This will work as a guard which will block hackers from getting access to your account. 

However, there are a couple of other important security settings that you shouldn't miss to check. It adds an extra layer of security to your WhatsApp account.

More protection for your WhatsApp

  • Apart from the two-step verification process, the cyber-security expert also suggests configuring a screen lock and enabling it to disable read receipts from your WhatsApp settings.
  • More importantly, if you regularly update your smartphone, then you should take extra care of the Settings. This is so because if you install WhatsApp on a new phone or device, your privacy or security settings will reset. Hence, you may need to add screen lock or make other changes.
  • Also, ensure to keep your device and apps updated with the latest software patches to fix bugs and malwares.
