iPhone SE 2020 still a good deal even as iPhone SE 3 is rumoured to hit production? Yes, you read that right. The iPhone SE has never been the most desirable, or the nicest smartphone in any year, let alone be an iPhone. The SE lineup is essentially Apple's recycling initiative to reuse last generation iPhones one more time in a bid to make more money before kissing the lineup and tooling goodbye. And this year, Apple may not be making any changes to the new model.

iPhone SE 3 rumours have long been pointing at a mild chip upgrade only, leaving apart the rest of the current-gen iPhone SE intact. Hence, users of current-gen iPhone SE, or those using the older iPhone 8, iPhone 7, and iPhone 6s aren't likely to experience any newness with this model. Hence, with the iPhone SE 3 hitting production, you are essentially getting the same small iPhone you are used to, except for paying a higher price (possibly).

Based on all the rumours, it seems the iPhone SE 3, or iPhone SE 5G will essentially be a mid-life performance upgrade, similar to the base iPad. This means it is going to cost more than the current price of the iPhone SE, owing to the new A15 chip and all the 5G bits. Given that the A13 is still a fast chip, and most of you wanting an iPhone just for doing regular phone things, you aren't going to experience a whole lot of difference.

iPhone SE 3 not being new

Since the A13 chip is still plenty fast, it does all the modern-day things easily. With no change to the 4.7-inch LCD display, the battery capacity, the camera sensors, and the overall design, there's no need in waiting for Apple to release the same old phone with just an enhanced price.

For a phone costing Rs. 30,299, the iPhone SE 2020 is expected to get at least four more years of iOS updates. That's longer than any Android phone selling at the price. And chances are that you may end up getting bored of a small iPhone after just a year; hence, why spend extra on a similar compact phone?
