If you ever wanted to know what space smells like you could actually do that. Eau de Space has made a perfume with the smell of space, something NASA had developed years back.

The Eau De Space perfume is available on Kickstarer, and it has so far received over $300,000 pledges. The project has 8,533 backers so far and 40 more days to go. In its Kickstarter page, the company explains how NASA had first developed the smell of space to help train astronauts before they launch into orbit. This was to prevent astronauts from any kind of surprise they might experience in outer space.

The company said that it wasn’t easy trying to get the smell of space manufactured and even had to make some Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for it. It has also partnered with award winning perfumers to develop Eau De Space, and its team has experts from different fields of fashion, tech, design, and logistics.

As for what space smells like, astronauts have described it as “seared steak”, "burnt cookies", "raspberries", and "rum". It’s interesting to see if this perfume actually gives one the experience of outer space.

It looks like the Kickstarter campaign will be successful but there are no plans of manufacturing the perfume after this. This will be more of a “one-off” production. The company therefore recommends people to buy as many as they want right now. They’re even offering a 40% discount on 200 or more units of Eau De Space. The perfume will be available in 4 ounce bottles.
