eShram Registration: Have you got yourself registered on eShram Portal yet? If you tried, you would have come across a few words on the portal at the time of registration whose meaning you might not know. If so, then know that the Common Services Centres (CSCeGov), a government of India entity working under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has revealed what the exact meaning is. Here we explain who is a Gig worker. It is important that you know what it means to correctly fill the form. The explanation has been provided on its official Twitter handle. While you register yourself on the portal, you will come across a question where you will have to mark if you are a Gig worker or not.

In order to make it easier for people to answer this question it is important for them to know the meaning of Gig worker. CSC has informed that Gig workers are independent contractors, platform workers, contract workers, on-call workers and temporary workers. Examples include cab drivers, food delivery agents, vehicle cleaners, street vendors etc. Taking to its Twitter handle, the CSC has tweeted, "DID YOU KNOW? Selecting Migrant Worker for eShram Registration... How to select Gig worker – Yes/No?"

It has also advised to enter details only after proper verification from the beneficiary. It can be known that the eShram portal was launched by the central government for the benefit of unorganized workers. It is a centralized database of unorganized workers seeded with Aadhaar and workers from the unorganized sectors can register on the portal for free.

For registering on the portal you will have to visit the official website of eShram by clicking on the link eshram.gov.in. Registration can also be done via Common Service Centres (CSC) and by State Government field offices in districts/Sub-districts.

Documents like Aadhaar Number, Aadhaar linked mobile number and bank account number will be required to complete the registration process.

How to register on eShram Portal?

Step 1: Visit the official website of eShram portal at eshram.gov.in.

Step 2. Click on the 'Register on eSHRAM' link available on the home page.

Step 3. You will then have to provide your Aadhaar linked mobile number and captcha code and click on send OTP.

Step 4: Follow the further instructions to complete the registration process.

Workers who do not have Aadhaar linked mobile number, can visit nearest CSC's and register through Biometric authentication.

After registering, the unorganized worker will get an Accidental Insurance cover of 2 Lakhs under PMSBY. Also, in future, all the social security benefits of unorganized workers will be delivered through this portal.
