While announcing the feature last month, WhatsApp has also said that it will start rolling out end-to-end encrypted chat backups to its users soon. Now, a month-and-a-half later, WhatsApp has finally started rolling out one of its biggest and most awaited features to users of its Android and iOS-based apps globally. (Bloomberg)

The news was announced by WhatsApp Head Will Cathcart via a post on Twitter. “Thanks everyone who has been using this in our beta! We’re rolling this out more broadly now. We’ll be taking it slowly – we know how important backups are to people and we need to get it right – but we’re working hard to get this option out to everyone as soon as possible,” he wrote in his post. Starting today, we are making available an extra, optional layer of security to protect backups stored on Google Drive or iCloud with end-to-end encryption,” WhatsApp explained in a blog post.
