Are you dealing with battery draining out fast issue on your iPhone? Beware! It can shorten your phones battery life in the long term, costing you plenty. You must have heard about and, in fact, must be, closing your apps running in the background to try and save battery and improve performance. However, you would be surprised to know that it is a myth! Apple says that you should not force close an app ever except if it has become totally unresponsive. That means, the trick that you were using for a long time is actually harming your precious iPhone. This applies to even the latest iPhones like iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11 and others.

The thing is that the recently used apps aren't actually open, they are in a standby mode that helps you to navigate better and multitask, Apple has explained. And closing your apps frequently can make them take even longer to reload next time, which can further drain your battery life faster. That means, it is better to not force stop all the apps every time on your iPhone.

Tech writer John Gruber, who runs the Daring Fireball blog says, “Apps in the background are effectively “frozen”, severely limiting what they can do in the background and freeing up the RAM they were using."

Still, closing an app on your iPhone becomes essential in case it won't respond or seems frozen. So, here is how iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and other iPhone users should close an app in case it is unresponsive.

How to close an app on your iPhone 13, iPhone 12 and more

Step 1:

If you are having an iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, then simply swipe up from the bottom of the home screen. You need to pause in the middle of the screen.

Step 2:

Then swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close and swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

Step 3:

The steps are a bit different for iPhone SE, iPhone 8 and earlier models to close an app. These users need to double-click the Home button to show your most recently used apps.

Step 4:

And then, swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close and simply swipe up to have a preview.
