WhatsApp is the most widely used messaging service in the world with 2 billion active users. The service, which was first introduced in 2009, has grown in leaps and bounds, adding several new features that help users enhance their communication with their contacts. However, there are some features that the service lacks, which are found on rival messaging services such as Telegram and Signal. One such feature is called the ‘Note to Self' feature from Signal that allows users to forward messages, images, videos and other content to themselves.

The Note to Self feature can come in handy when you want to quickly find something you sent to yourself weeks ago, instead of digging through the older chats and trying to find the right message. WhatsApp does have a Starred Messages feature which offers similar functionality, but it only works for messages that have been already sent or received. With Note to Self, users can type a message which will be saved as a message that can be referred to later, for example, a shopping list.

There are two ways to replicate the same Note to Self functionality on WhatsApp, as the app doesn't offer the ability to message yourself at this time. Here's what you need to do to get started:

Method 1: The WhatsApp group method

Step 1) Create a new WhatsApp group with yourself and any friend after taking their consent.

Step 2) Now go to the group's member settings and remove your friend from the group.

Step 3) Give the group a new name like “Reminders” or “Bookmarks” and pin it to the chat list for easy access.

Method 2: Messaging yourself on WhatsApp

Step 1) First open Google Chrome or whichever browser you prefer, then click on the address bar.

Step 2) Type https://wa.me/+910000000000 and press Enter. Replace the zeroes in the message with your own phone number.

Step 3) Click on the confirmation message and WhatsApp will open a “chat” with your number.

Step 4) Send a message, then go to the main chat list and “pin” the chat at the top for easy access.
