(HT Tech) ![Author Photo](https://images.hindustantimes.com/tech/static/revamp/images/png/HTTech-new-circle-logo.png) ### By HT TECH Does your laptop take longer than usual to load or becomes unresponsive? Technology has made us very dependent on laptops and computers for almost all our professional and personal work and whenever things like this happen, it tends to be quite frustrating. But have you ever checked why it takes longer than usual to load? There are certain factors that eventually slow down the laptop and computer including high CPU usage and most of the time, you can fix it yourself. The files can sometimes expand in size enough to slow down a computer. Hence you must keep a check on your system, clear the storage and delete all the unnecessary files. Here is how you can speed up your laptop and computer. ### How to speed up your laptop and computer 1. Check if your laptop/PC has a virus: If your laptop runs slow and takes a long time to load, you must check if your system is infected by malware. You can also download a verified and recognized antivirus program as your cybersecurity tool. 2. Clear old programs and temporary files: There are several unused and forgotten-about programs sitting on our system and this might be another reason for a slow functioning laptop. So one must get rid of these unwanted and unused files, by right-clicking on the folder, and in the “View” options, choose “Details,” select all the files that are of no use and get rid of them- then go to the Recycle Bin on your desktop and empty it too. A hard drive that is at least 85% full is one of the other important reasons to reduce the computer’s processing speed by up to 50%. Downloaded programs, files, photos, and extensive music libraries take a toll on your hard drive. Thus, delete or move files that you no longer need. 4. Keep your browser clean: Your internet surfing habit can be yet another reason to slow your laptop. Opening 12-14 tabs at once can overload your browser and affect the operation of the system. To solve this issue, keep closing these browsers as and when the work is done. You may also want to go to your browsing history and delete computer cookies and cached items as well to furter boost laptop speed.
