WhatsApp - the widely used app for connecting with people across the globe has more than 2 billion users. And that's what makes it the perfect target for cyber attackers to con users. In recent years, the messaging app has been the victim of many cyber threats. Cybercriminals and hackers are always in the search of new ways to trick people to make money, and now WhatsApp is falling into their trap too. But there are ways to avoid being the victim of such WhatsApp scams. Here are the top three simple tricks to keep the hackers away.

New message from an unknown number? Check carefully

Cybercriminals know how to get your reply! They usually message from an unknown number by using an emotive or urgency tone to bring your attention to it to get you to rush into it. Sometimes, they may pretend to be your close friend or family member to ensure that you reply to them and fall into the trap of fraud. But beware! No matter what story they share, always check the number and information carefully. Check what can be the distinguishing point in their message to know if they are really your known person or not. If you have any doubt, just check them by asking for some information that your friend or family knows. Most importantly, you should not share sensitive information such as bank details, PAN card number, Aadhaar number, or any such details.

Never ever click on random links

No matter who is sharing the random links, your known friend or some unknown person, never click them. Most of the malicious links come from some large group on your WhatsApp, ensure that the link is legit and does not pose any threat. There is a possibility that your contact got the link from somewhere else and in view of a good offer or discount, that link has been shared further. The simplest way is to restrict yourself from clicking any suspicious links. Even if it doesn't look suspicious, do check its authenticity by looking at the URL.

Update is necessity

Updates aren't just to bring new features to your WhatsApp but also to get the fix to the existing threats. How simple is that! Just update the app whenever it is available. You can also opt for automatic updates, which will ensure to keep your WhatsApp up-to-date.
