Do you have a Permanent Account Number (PAN)? If yes, you need to be a bit cautious as fraudsters can use your PAN card details for fraud. In a recent incident, actor Rajkummar Rao has been a victim of a fraud where his PAN card was misused to take a loan on his name. The actor claimed because of this fraud, his credit score was affected and asked the officials at Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited (CIBIL) to look into the matter. Informing about the incident, the actor tweeted, "#FraudAlert My pan card has been misused and a small loan of Rs.2500 has been taken on my name. Due to which my cibil score has been affected. @CIBIL_Official please rectify the same and do take precautionary steps against this."

For the uninitiated, PAN is a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a laminated card, by the Income Tax Department, to any “person” who applies for it or to whom the department allots the number without an application and acts as an identifier for the person. PAN enables the department to link all transactions of the “person” with the department. These transactions include tax payments, TDS/TCS credits, returns of income/wealth/gift/FBT, specified transactions, correspondence, and so on.

What to do if PAN related fraud happens with you?

The Income-Tax Department has an electronic portal for lodging PAN grievances through Aayakar Sampark Kendra (ASK). By using this portal one can submit his grievance pertaining to an application for PAN submitted to either UTITSL or NSDL. One can also surrender the duplicate PAN through this portal.

Step 1:

As per the information provided by the Income Tax Department you need to visit- https://incometax.intelenetglobal.com/pan/pan.asp.

Step 2:

Click on submit button and fill out the requisite details like Nature of Complaint, Receipt Number etc.

Step 3:

Click on submit button in order to Submit the Grievance.
