Paytm App user? Beware of this message that can steal your money through fraud apps
Fraudsters are using fake Paytm Apps to scam people. Know how to stay safe from online frauds.
Digitalisation and making online payments or transfers is the new normal now. But, this massive boost to digitalisation has also powered online frauds. Online scams have in fact, gained pace with cybercriminals getting increasingly active and brazen in their endeavours to steal money. There are a number of apps that can be used by people to make online money transfers like Google Pay (GPay), PhonePe, Paytm, among others. These apps are widely being used and trusted by individuals to make payments. Fraudsters and scamsters are using various methods to con people including making fake calls, sending fake mails with links to fake websites, etc. with the intention of stealing money from unsuspecting victims.
Cybercriminals send emails, or messages to people's phones and these contain links to fake websites or asking for certain apps to be downloaded that promise some big benefit or the other. Now, these spoof applications are being used to fool people. These fake apps and websites look very similar to those of the original company, making it difficult for people to differentiate between the original and fake.
People who also get fraud or fake emails and messages must be very careful and not allow themselves to be lured into a scam by tall promises. Under no circumstances should they click on links sent by strangers. Paytm has listed a number of steps that can be taken by users to avoid online frauds.
How to be safe from online frauds
1. Beware of the fraudulent apps: There are many fake apps on the Google Play Store and App Store. However, these apps can be identified through multiple negative reviews, lack of verified badges and a low number of downloads. While downloading the application, ensure that it is verified either on the app store or play store.
2. Do not share passwords: You should never share your UPI PIN, password or any other major detail with anyone and should change the UPI PIN or password regularly to avoid falling prey to cyber-attacks.
3. Avoid saving card details: You should avoid saving card details while making card payments using the payment applications. If you do save the details, you can erase the details later.
