We saw a Xiaomi branded tablet earlier this year and it is now time for the Redmi tablet – it was obvious it would happen. With an increased inflow of affordable Android tablets from brands like Motorola, Oppo and Realme, Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi launches its first tablet in India; the Redmi Pad. This is aimed at those seeking an affordable tablet in India while enjoying decent specifications. In fact, the Redmi Pad could disrupt the affordable tablet segment in India considering all its features.

Before we talk specs, here are the prices. The Redmi Pad comes in a base 3GB + 64GB variant costing Rs. 12,999. There is another variant in 4GB + 128GB combo that costs Rs. 14,999. The top-end variant in 6GB + 128GB combo will cost Rs. 16,999. The tablet comes in Graphite Gray, Moonlight Silver, and Mint Green colours, and will go on sale from October 5.

The Redmi Pad is incredibly affordable but it does not compromise on the specifications; it is much better equipped than more expensive Android tablets under Rs. 20,000. The Redmi Pad features a metal unibody design and weighs 465 grams. The tablet gets a 10.6-inch 2K resolution display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The tablet comes with Widevine L1 certification for better performance with OTT apps.

This display is accompanied by a set of quad speakers with support for Dolby Atmos. Users will get 2 months of free YouTube Premium subscription with the Redmi Pad.

Underneath the display lies a MediaTek Helio G99 chip, which is a new entry-level 4G chipset powering some new smartphones. It runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box, and Redmi promises two Android OS updates and three years of security patches. You can expand the storage up to 1TB via a microSD card slot. Wireless connectivity is taken care of with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3.

You also get a 8MP rear camera and another 8MP front camera. The front camera comes with FocusFrame that keeps the subject in the center when they move around. Lastly, all of that is backed by a 8000mAh battery that comes with support for 18W wired charging.
